The best way to post a free posting is to click on "place your classified Ad". It's located
on the top right-hand side on all our pages.
Fill out our online form and proceed from there.
All free postings are now in self-service mode, which works like this:
1. you submit a posting.
2. you'll receive an email containing a link to an online form.
3. this form will allow you make last-minute changes and then publish your posting.
4. once published, your posting will appear on the site almost immediately.
5. keep your email, because you can use the link later to return to this same form and edit the posting as many times as you like, and see the results take effect on the site instantly (make sure you reload/refresh your browser).
6. you can also use this form to delete your posting at any time.
7. if you lose or delete this email, and need it later, you can have it resent.

General posting guidelines
Edits for postings are now self-service . Use the link provided in the same self-posting email you used originally to self-post. If you can't find this, try having it re-sent.
Note: Editing your post will not bring it up to the current date. You'll need to post a new listing to bring it to the top of the list (please, no more then twice a week).
All postings stay for 30 days - except for event listings that will expire depending on the posted event date range.
Deletions are now self-service. Use the link provided in the same self-posting email you used originally to self-post. If you can't find this, try having it re-sent.
Please note, all postings are automatically deleted upon expiration.
You'll need to submit a new posting. We CANNOT repost a free listing for you.
You may post to one category and in one city.
If you are submitting a post that is similar to an existing post currently active on the site from the same email address, you will get a blocked message. Removing the active post on the site will allow you to post the new ad.
If you've lost the email that allows you to manage/remove your post, you can have it resent here: http://www.desisoup.com/about/resendkey.html.
When submitting a posting, you are asked to provide your email address.
We've provided three options for you under this field:
- Your email address appears in your posting just as you have typed it.
- We anonymize your contact email info. We relay responses to your actual email address.
- No email address is shown at all - you'll need to provide contact information in the "Other ways people should contact you" box.
Selecting the last two options will guarantee anonymity, but only the second option allows you to receive emails.
If you have successfully submitted your posting, but have not received the email to self-publish your post:
- If you are using an online email account, please check your bulk mail folder.
- Did you enter your email address correctly on the posting form? It only takes one typo!
- Your email provider may be experiencing delays, or be having trouble connecting to desisoup for mail. This is especially prevalent these days for some of the free email providers.
Don't despair, you can always have your self-posting email re-sent.
For free postings it takes approximately 15 minutes from the time you publish the posting until it appears on the site.
To see your posting you must go to the category where you posted it and REFRESH or RELOAD your browser. The refresh/reload option is usually located along the top of your browser. If you do not see it there, try clicking the right button on your mouse. If you do not refresh/reload, you are not seeing the most current version of the page and you will not see your posting.
You can do that using the HTML <img> tag, but the picture must already be
on a site someplace. There are many free web hosting sites on the internet where you can upload your picture, just type in "free web hosting" into your search engine. Make sure that the site allows you to link to their site from another. If it's on a site, say on www.desisoup.org, in a directory teamPix, and named sample.gif,
you'd code:
It'd look like an actual photo of Craig you see on the right. (The align attribute is
useful, but not necessary.)
If you do this, you're using HTML, so see the next question.
Traditional processing, no HTML:
If you include a URL in the text, make sure you also include the http:// in front of the url or our system will not recognize it and make it an active highlighted hyperlink.
You can use HTML in the posting body
If you want, you can use HTML sparingly.
We don't try to wrap HTML around your URLs if
we see HTML tags including <a, <li, <p.
We just pass through your HTML unchanged.
Please use only the HTML you'd use in the <BODY> of a document,
no <TITLE> or anything like that.
We can't support JavaScript or applets, anything like that.
* Note: If you use HTML in any part of your posting you must use it throughout the entire body of your posting.
If you see a problem with a posting, choose a reason why the posting needs to be removed from the choices located on the upper left of the posting: miscategorized, prohibited, spam. If enough people flag the post for the same reason, the post will automatically be returned to the poster with an email explaining why the post was returned.
Our policies prohibit the following types of listings on our site:
Posting of any franchise, pyramid scheme, multi-level marketing, "club membership", distributorship or sales representative agency arrangement or other business opportunity which requires an up front or periodic payment,
requires recruitment of other members, sub-distributors or sub-agents, or pays commissions only (except for postings that make clear that the available job pays commission only and clearly describes the product or service that the job seeker would be selling, in which case such postings may be permissible).
Soliciting illegal activity either implicitly or explicitly on desisoup is prohibited.
If you suspect that you are the target of a posting prank, please contact us immediately and ask to have the posting removed. Please have ready the posting title, category, and email address (if available).
We take cases of abuse and pranking very seriously.
If you feel you've been cheated in a transaction or that there is a post on the site that is false advertising, please let us know about it. However, in most cases, we can't do real investigation, you'll have to rely on the police and/or small claims court for that. We really want to help, but for the most part, this is beyond our limited resources. We hope we have your understanding on this.
We just can't find anything genuine that's like what we do.
Because of this and the demand from our growing community, we are expanding into new places. You can see where desisoup currently has a presence by visiting our homepage - you will see a list of all the communities we serve on the right-hand side.
You should post to the general geographic location of where you are located.
The idea is that if someone is looking for housing or a job in Seattle, for example, they would visit the desisoup Seattle site. This local community approach is what desisoup is all about. However, there are times that your Ad might be relevant to general Indian population - in such cases we allow you to post in "multiple locations" for a fee. The fee is dependant on the number of locations you choose to post.
Unfortunately, we don't archive postings here.
You are welcome to post in the "services offered" categories. Commercial posts outside of these categories will be removed.
For example, if I run a fee-based service which gets stuff posted on multiple websites, can I also send those postings to desisoup?
We don't normally allow that, since we feel that's contrary to our idea of community spirit, based on a lot of feedback. People are antsy about any kind of for-profit postings, particularly in housing.
Desisoup is not an auction site and we would really appreciate it if you could help us keep it that way. If you have something for sale, or even a place for rent, please post a set price. Please do not scalp tickets on desisoup. Thanks for your help with this!
Desisoup does not condone selling tickets over face value. We see scalping to be a major disservice to the community and consider those that would use desisoup for this purpose to be abusing the site. This is a difficult issue for us in that we are unable to realistically regulate this with any real equality since we can't know the price of every ticket in town. If, however, the posting is flagged excessively and the ticket is being sold over face value, then it will be removed.
